As an administrative member of the health care team, you will be employed in medical offices, clinics, hospitals, and insurance firms. You will often be the first and last person to greet patients; thus, your manner should put the patient at ease. The doctor will rely on you not only to handle patient requests and records but also to manage his/her time wisely. Graduates from the medical program will learn a variety of skills preparing them to work in hospitals, physicians', specialists', and optometry offices as well as other medical-related environments. This program focuses on developing strong clerical skills using medical terminology and computer software to handle voice transcription in addition to billing and scheduling. An empathic and ethical approach to the care of patients is emphasized.
Prerequisites: Grade 12 overall average of
60 percent or GED12
